Presentation Overview

This presentation provides a high-level introduction to the standardized structure for interconnecting computer systems and exchanging information, defines a networking framework for implementing protocols in seven layers, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) layering.

1. The Basic OSI Model – Provide background on the ANSI/ISO reference model, the protocol and interface for communicating, and the seven “standard” layers of functionality: Application Layer, Presentation Layer, Session Layer, Transport Layer, Network Layer, Data Link Layer and Physical Layer.

2. Using the OSI Model – Discuss the application of the internationally recognized model in system design and as an audit and security analysis tool.
